Monday Morning 8/30.

Summer's heat keeps on giving but we do feel like the end of a hot summer is near. Does the large walnuts that have started to fall mean we are in for another big winter?.

September arrives this week which is the official start to fall cycling events here in the Valley...Six pack rides have returned along with Saturday morning trail work days. The Thursday trail work evenings will alternate back to Massanutten and this weekend is the first of the big local weekend events with the Shenandoah Mountain 100 Miler. All the big guns will be coming to Harrisonburg and trying to capture the crown, hopefully Jeremiah will be able to recover this week from a super long week in Colorado sealing the Stage Race Victory at the Breck Epic.

Tonight at Pulp. is the the Friendly City Food Coop membership drive from 5-7pm.Come down to Pulp to sign up and get a smoothie.

Monday Social Mountain Bike Ride:. A laid back social mountain bike ride where all skill levels are welcome to attend. Meet at posted parking area at 5:30pm ready to ride.

Tuesday Night Fast Road Ride:Leaving from the SBC at 5;30pm, a 1.5 hour ride (will get longer with daylight, bring lights for dusk riding) that will be fast with points of regrouping. The SVBC Forum forum will let you know of changes!

Tuesday Ladies Mountain Bike Ride:. A ride hosted by the ladies for the ladies. Each Tuesday is a different difficultly level, for weeks ride check out the SVBC homepage.

Wednesday Road Road: The longest weekly ride in the Valley (over 15 years). A casual pace road ride leaving from Harrisonburg High School at 5:15pm Sharp. This is a group ride and folks will stick together.

Thursday Tempo Road Ride:5:30 behind SBC, a two hour road ride traveling County roads at a very steady pace, faster then the Wednesday ride but not has punchy as the Tuesday Fast Ride..

Thursday Trail Work: Trail Work will be at Massanutten this Thursday, 5pm to Dark. Meet at parking at 5pm or go up access road 1/2 and look for Big Red Truck...Work area on right side of road, for more info contact Thomas: tj@shenandoahbicycle.com.

Friday Six Pack Rides:. The fall tradition that has been going since 94' has started up again. The six pack rides are a social mountain bike ride centered around going up and down the mountain and good social times afterwards. Meet at the Food Lion on Route 42 South at 3pm.
Saturday SVBC Trail Work Day:. The fall trail work series starts this Saturday and will continue every Saturday through October. SVBC needs your help to earn trail work hours which will be part of the grant match towards the $100,000 grant SVBC SVBC was awarded was the State. homepage.
Sunday Shenandoah Mountain 100 Mile Back Country Race:. This local event now captures the attention from riders from all over the States. 500 riders will tackle the 100 mile course in the George Washington National Forest. For all the details visit Shenandoah Mountain Touring site.

Upcoming Events

Sunday Sept. 12th Shenandoah Valley Century:. The oldest cycling event in the area does it another year. With rides of 25, 50 and 100 miles there is something for everyone. Register early and it only cost $12 and will close with 300 riders (yes, it will fill up). Here are the details.

Satuday Sept. 19th The DR100 Memorial Ride:. When Doctor Joseph Mirenda when struck and kill in 2009 it affect the entire community. Folks have come together to create both cycling and running events to help celebrate his life and raise funds for advocacy. Come out for this inaugural event, here are details.
