Trek's Madone 5 Series is a feature-packed, race-ready platform with an aero advantage. Crafted from Trek's renowned OCLV Carbon, this road rocket boasts their super-aerodynamic KVF tube technology to smooth airflow from tip-to-tail and effortlessly turn pedal power into speed. This Madone also features Trek's stiff, beefy BB90 bottom bracket for optimal power transfer, their E2 tapered front end so you slice through corners with pinpoint precision, and an integrated, adjustable seatmast for outstanding compliance with a perfect fit. Furthering the ideal fit is Trek's H2 geometry that places the handlebars slightly higher for top comfort. And this carbon beauty is loaded! I love this bike!

Comments:

I bought this bike after a friend challenged me to ride in the Seattle to Portland ride earlier this year after no cycling experience for over 40 years. Getting on the bike is pure joy. It just wants to go. I trained hard, putting over 3000 miles on it and then did the STP with no problems and loving every minute. It is a great riding machine and I would recommend it to anyone. I recently upgraded the shift changers to the Shimano Di2 system and it somehow made it even better, enabling me to cut time off of my previous bests on the different circuits I ride.

Comments:

I bought a 2011 Trek Madone 5.2 to replace my aluminum framed bike and the difference between the two is night and day. I noticed it right away when I got on it to ride at the store. Mine has three gears in the front and it really helps out with climbing. I do not know if this is the same for the newer models. The only thing I did to modify the bike was swap out the stock wheels to upgraded lighter non-Trek aluminum wheels (which made it even gush with more awesomeness!). As of now, I have no plans on getting rid of it. For what you pay you get a very good quality bike.

Faulty bottom bracket design

By Clancy

About Me

Pros

  • Stiff Light Looks Great

Cons

  • Bottom Bracket Design

Best Uses

  • Performance Ride And Race

Comments:

Really good bike. Well balanced. comfortable. Trek stands behind their product. Frame- Bottom bracket issues with the earlier models (2007) The bottom bracket fits directly into the frame to save weight. Unfortunately, the frame wears out because of the constant force on the BB. My 2007 frame had to be replaced. It took 7 years for it to develop. Im not sure if Trek has corrected this engineering problem in the new Madone. It would be worth inquiring.

    Comments:

Replaced my 3 year old aluminum bike with a 2014 Trek. I wasn't sure of the difference due to carbon and the price to pay for it. But it is "Priceless". The bike is extremely fast and smooth, easy to handle, comfortable and really light. Love it. Also had a great experience with "Spokes" - the experts at the store are really helpful and guide in the process.

I am a marathon runner who has made the switch to biking because of an orthopedic problem. I tried 2 other brands and the Madone 5.2 was by far the best. It is very light and shifts incredibly smooth. I am hoping to race with it next year when my bike fitness gets there.

This is an ultimate sweet ride. Traded in an '06 5.2 Madone for '12 5.2 Madone. Was blown away by the difference. Lighter, faster, handles with ease. Road the same course that I rode with my '06 that included cobblestones and climbs. The difference was amazing. Absorbed all of the shock of riding on stones. This bike wants to ride and climb. Quick accelerations and superb handling and cornering.

I bought the Madone 5.2 after buying a Neuvation FC100 roadbike. What a difference! For just a few more dollars you get a much, much better bike that is well engineered, whisper quiet and a pleasure to ride. If you are considering a new bike, be sure to test ride a Madone. Don't waste your time on no-name bargains that will drive your crazy with creaks and groans.

The bike is fast and very stable. Stock bike comes with excellent components at a great price. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and the folks at High Gear Millburn, NJ are the best. Great customer service, knowledge, custom fitting and selection. I must have test road six or seven different road bikes before the Modone 5.2 called my name. Give it a try you will not be sorry.
